Initial review of DD Hammock

Not having too much experience using hammocks I did quite a bit of research before I made the decision to buy an expensive one. I already had a cheap 20$ hammock that worked but I needed one with a mosquito net. I happened upon some good reviews for DD hammocks so I decided to check them out.

They are a company based in the UK and they have a fairly extensive product line. The one that I chose to get was their Frontline. It has an attached bug net and also features a 2 ply base which was the main reason I went with DD. They had another hammock that was the same price and virtually the same hammock as the Frontline with the only difference being a water proof base which allows it to be used as a solo bivy. I opted for the Frontline because the waterproof base on the other one is not very breathable and on a hot Missouri night breathability is important.

I payed around 95$ for the hammock, which included shipping and tax. DD boasted about having fast shipping and I was surprised to receive it within two days. Initial inspection showed that all of the stitching is reinforced, the zippers feel flimsy but I have yet to have any issues with them. The webbing used to tie the hammock up looks like a large shoe lace which gave me a little uneasy feeling as to how well it would hold my weight, but so far it has worked perfect. Overall it looks and feels like a quality product. The webbing came in 2, 16 foot pieces which are meant to be tied around a tree and strung through the ends of the hammock so I modified that a little. I cut enough off to string through the end of the hammock and tie and leave on the hammock. With the rest I tied several overhand knots down the length so that it can be looped around a tree and I can use a carabiniere to attach it.

Setting it up is easy especially with the modification I made. As long as it is stretched fairly tight it doesn't sag much and is very comfortable. The 2 ply's provide a space for a sleeping mat, on cooler nights I put a wool blanket in there. It also has 2 pockets on the inside for a phone or light.
Over all this is a great product. I am extremely pleased with the price and quality.
